Oh wow, I haven't updated this in quite a while. So, apologies to anyone that enjoyed my 2 page rant on Doctor Who, but here's the new intro.

I'm Circe. I'm kind of a goth, sort of an environmentalist, completely a feminist, pretty much a liberal, etc. etc. etc. I live in a big city having various adventures and whatnot. I like to dance. Also, pie. Tumblr is great and all, but I prefer the increased interaction you get from journaling (or at least used to!)

This is mostly my fandom, but also my everything else away from, RL journal, so I can babble without hurting anyone's feelings and indulge in fannishness without having to explain myself. I've been in fandom for 1000 years, read fanfic like it's my job, love fanvids, and ocassionally post photoshop manips. Other interests that may crop up here are goth/industrial/synth music, photoshoppery, bpal perfume oils, feminism/gender issues, cosplay and fencing.

My main fandom loved are: Doctor Who (classic & RTD), Big Finish, Labyrinth, Elementary, X-Men, BtVS/AtS, Harry Potter, Syfy Alice, Trek, PoTC, Utena, Star Wars, Agent Carter, Brooklyn 99, Mad Max: Fury Road, Orphan Black, Zootopia, Riverdale
My current fandom obsession is: Riverdale

I'm in fandom for the ladies- all of my fandoms have to have at least one strong female protagonist as a central character, though the more the better! I also require this of the fic I read- the real world is androcentric enough for me, thanks. :P I also get enough gloom and doom in the real world, so I prefer things with minimal angst.

Anyone's welcome to friend me (especially if we have shared interests!), though if you want me to friend you back, please leave me a comment telling me why you've friended me just so I know where you came from! :) It's (mostly) unlocked and isn't edited for the public so I may come across as crazy, obsessive, repetitive, anxious/depressed, and also incredibly boring. So if you're here cause I commented on something of yours, sorry for the weirdness. I'm not *quite* as crazy as I seem.

For both our sakes though, I should say we probably won't get along if you're very socially conservative, don't see a problem with character bashing (not concrit) or hating on women characters (and/or positioning them as evil romantic rivals for your fave ship), think slash is cool yet think femmeslash is icky (same goes for the slash=edgy/het=stupid school of thought), love steven moffatt, are anti-science, are anti psych medication (for everyone), or are mostly interested in dude characters or all dude ships.

So I was going to post a general update post, but after going through and commenting and responding I am too lazy to. But if anyone is watching Riverdale, please share your murderer theories with me!

My current theory is Hiram Lodge setting something in motion, or Cheryl's dad.

So I'm doing that thing again where I haven't posted in a good long time and although I've wanted to start posting again I've had the tab open on my browser for weeks because the thought of posting is very intimidating.

So I'm just going to bite the bullet and post and not try to come up with something long and amazing.

I hope everyone is doing well!

If anyone's left, what are you reading/watching/listening to these days? I enjoyed Jessica Jones a lot, but I thought this season of Agent Carter was kind of meh.

(last one, sorry for the flist spam)

So I while back I rewatched Syfy's Alice, fell in love with it again, and read a bunch of awesome fic. It's visually stunning and inventive, and I love both Alice and Hatter.

shippy but totally sfw Alice & Hatter under the cutCollapse )

So a billion years ago I made a manip of Martha, Donna and Rose hanging out in the TARDIS together because I love them all and wish they got to hang out more. This was loosely inspired by jigglykat's brilliant fanart.

Please excuse/ignore the deluge of posts- it appears I never posted a bunch of older manips I swore I did? Whoops. Anyway, there is some Rose/Rose behind the cut, which I made when the author of my favorite Ten/Rose/TenII series (that would be fid-gin, and the series would be the Loved'verse) posted a new one off in the series featuring that Rose meeting dimension-jumping Rose. (The story was By Any Other Name)

Sorrow everywhere. Slaughter everywhere. If babies
are not starving someplace, they are starving
somewhere else. With flies in their nostrils.
But we enjoy our lives because that's what God wants.
Otherwise the mornings before summer dawn would not
be made so fine. The Bengal tiger would not
be fashioned so miraculously well. The poor women
at the fountain are laughing together between
the suffering they have known and the awfulness
in their future, smiling and laughing while somebody
in the village is very sick. There is laughter
every day in the terrible streets of Calcutta,
and the women laugh in the cages of Bombay.
If we deny our happiness, resist our satisfaction,
we lessen the importance of their deprivation.
We must risk delight. We can do without pleasure,
but not delight. Not enjoyment. We must have
the stubbornness to accept our gladness in the ruthless
furnace of this world. To make injustice the only
measure of our attention is to praise the Devil.
If the locomotive of the Lord runs us down,
we should give thanks that the end had magnitude.
We must admit there will be music despite everything.
We stand at the prow again of a small ship
anchored late at night in the tiny port
looking over to the sleeping island: the waterfront
is three shuttered cafés and one naked light burning.
To hear the faint sound of oars in the silence as a rowboat
comes slowly out and then goes back is truly worth
all the years of sorrow that are to come.

Don't mind me,I swore I had posted this already, but apparently not. Two manips, both Rose/Ten. Feel free to scroll on by.

_______
The color one is completely G-rated, the B&W one has Rose pushing a shirtless Ten up against a wall, so take that as you will in terms of NSFW-ness.

So the thing about the shootings in CA and the resulting twitter stuff that is bothering me (aside from the obvious) is this: I'm lucky enough, because of my job, hermit-y nature, and the people I choose to hang out with, that I don't often come across in person, the asshole attitudes of MRAs or "Not all Men" dudes. The dudes I most often come into contact with are the decent sort, who are quick to express disapproval when hearing about misogyny and sexism.

You know what? Fuck those men too.

I know a lot of dudes who consider themselves feminist to some degree and against misogyny and sexism (um, like any decent human being should, you don't get a cookie), but I have very rarely seen a dude call out another dude for casual misogyny and sexism in public.

Like, I don't give a fuck if you agree that sexism is wrong and are 100% willing to tell me, *after* the party, in private, or in our group of sympathetic friends, that what that other dude said is fucked up. I'm not asking you to like, march in a parade or chain yourself to something or volunteer at a women's center, because it's not like I'm a hardcore activist myself. But I am willing to actually say "Wow, that's offensive and not funny" instead of laughing politely, even if it makes me look awkward, even if it makes me uncomfortable. Because the sad truth is, when a women protests that sort of comment, it gets brushed off and ignored as "oversensitive" or "feminazi" in a way that doesn't happen when it's dude to dude. It has to be peer to peer. Men that don't say anything or laugh uncomfortably are contributing to the culture that says this shit is okay.

It's the exact same thing with racism and white people, except that people usually wait until they're in what they think is an all-white group to make those comments. I'm lucky in that I have the double edged sword of looking white but not really being it, so I have more at my disposal, but it's really not that hard. (And truthfully, because it counts more coming from a "white" person so I usually don't mention my heritage unless they're being total assholes and I want to see their eyes widen as they desperate try to backtrack) Like, I don't do it every single time, and occasionally I'm a coward. But I do it most of the time. I realize that if I don't put myself out there and call it out, chances are no one is going to, and is it really so important to save myself 10 seconds of awkwardness?

So why don't so many dudes.

...I almost started this post "Not to rag on all men" but then realized, wtf, I'll rag on men if I want to.

(To my few male friends who I have seen call this shit out, you are rockstars and the fucking best)
